Glenmuir Utd Under 10s met New Generation for the second time this season in Bellew park on Sunday 20th November and from the outset it was obvious that this was going to be a very tough physical battle. Glenmuir attacked from the start but this left alot of space in the midfield on a large pitch and New Generation with their phyiscal strength and speed exploited this space well. The Glenmuir defence of James O'Connell, Nathan Hearty and Niall Kilgallen were kept extremly busy with several breaks from the New Generation midfield. Aaron Dunlop in goals was also quick of his line to mop up anything that got past the defenders.
However it was Glenmuir who struck the early blow with a goal after 5 minutes, New Generation conceded a free as Glenmuir attacked down the right and Niall O'Callaghan's strike from the free kick came of the head of a defender and looped over the keeper and into the top left corner.
Both teams were evenly matched and the midfield of Niall O'Callaghan, Liam McStravick, Kyle Connolly and Sameul Ezenaka were very busy and battle well but couldn't link up with Andrew cummins up front to get a break through for a second. Play was stopped on several occassions as New Generation players came in strong on tackles but ended coming out the worse and going to ground, this meant didn't flow well.
New Generation's equaliser came when Glenmuir concede a free kick inside their own half and the resulting strike dropped into the bottom left hand corner.
The second half was played in the same fashion as the first and defenders Cian Mulligan and Leon Browne stood their ground to keep the New Generation attackers at bay. As the second half progressed Glenmuir pressed from midfield and Nathan Kirk and Tom Wakins applied more and more pressure but the ball just didn't seem to fall kindly for Glenmuir
The best chance of the half fell to Niall O'Callaghan who managed to find a gap in the New Generation defence and put himself one-on-one with the keeper, but the keeper got down early to make a good save.
Glenmuir continued to press for a second and utilised both wings really well forcing New Genration to concede a lot of frees and corners but the game looked it was going to finish honours even. However in the last few minutes New Generation conceded their 3rd corner in a row and Liam Mcstravick whipped in an excellant ball which the keeper palmed into the roof of the net.
